HEADQUARTERS DESIGN COMPETITION
FOR AIA
AIA North Carolina held a design competition to select the architect for their new 12000sf headquarters in downtown Raleigh. On the night January 23, a blue-ribbon panel of nationally known architects from outside NC selected the new design from a field of 48 entrants. Frank Harmon won and coming in second, Pearce Brinkley Cease and Lee. Third was Kenneth Hobgood. Harmon’s firm will now go through a qualification process, which should not take long given the firm’s national reputation, and then the actual design begins. Congratulations Frank – and to all the firms that put in thousands of hours collectively in the competition. This is the first time an AIA Chapter has held a competition for a new headquarters building. Three checks were awarded: First Place: $5,000, Second Place: $3,000, Third Place: $2,000.
