HEADQUARTERS DESIGN COMPETITION FOR AIA NORTH CAROLINA

 

AIA North Carolina held a design competition to select the architect for their new 12000sf headquarters in downtown Raleigh.  On the night January 23, a blue-ribbon panel of nationally known architects from outside NC selected the new design from a field of 48 entrants. 

Frank Harmon won and coming in second, Pearce Brinkley Cease and Lee.  Third was Kenneth Hobgood.  Harmon’s firm will now go through a qualification process, which should not take long given the firm’s national reputation, and then the actual design begins.  Congratulations Frank – and to all the firms that put in thousands of hours collectively in the competition.  This is the first time an AIA Chapter has held a competition for a new headquarters building.

Three checks were awarded:  First Place: $5,000, Second Place: $3,000, Third Place: $2,000.  Here is Frank Harmon's winning entry:
