A North Carolina 501C3 Nonprofit Documenting, Preserving, and Promoting Residential Modernist Architecture

Public Comments and Media Articles
"In short, I shall always say to anyone who will listen: Classic Triangle Modernism sets a great architectural example. It's seminal and important work, and more varied perhaps than its Californian equivalent [from what I've seen of both] not least, presumably, because a wetter climate means a more challenging brief to fulfil. From the European perspective that makes North Carolina much more relevant than southern California, lovely though its characteristically sun-kissed architectural creations so often are. I am just grateful to you all for taking all that time and effort to compile and maintain the site." -- John Elwyn Kimber

"Thank you so much for putting my parent's house on the website (which is a great site, by the way). I really appreciate your doing it." -- Lyn Satisky

"Your website is incredible. Thanks so much for taking the time to research and put it forward. I believe that educating the public about modern design is the only way the it will not be seen as "ugly" or an eyesore and people need to know these are in their own backyard. Thanks again." -- David Fish

"The NYC trip was a wonderful outing. I especially enjoyed the Saarinen exhibit, the TWA Terminal, and the Smith House. During the late 1950’s when my interest in architecture was emerging, I became fascinated with Saarinen’s work. I recalled his portrait on the cover of Time magazine in 1957, and I visited the TWA Terminal in 1964, when my father drove our family to NYC to see the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows. He had visited the Chicago World’s Fair of 1939, and he wanted me to see the architectural wonders in New York. Viewing the ruins from the bus during our tour last Friday was heart wrenching. When I attended graduate school at MIT, I had a chance to attend worship services at the MIT Chapel and attend meetings in the Kresge Chapel, both designed by Saarinen. Later, when I was in the US Army stationed at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indiana, I had the chance to visit Columbus, Indiana and view Saarinen’s church with the tall, elegant steeple he designed for the congregation attended by the Irwin Miller families who sponsored other prominent architects in the city." -- Arthur Clement

"I enjoyed seeing your note of thanksgiving......we should also thank you for what you have accomplished in putting this site together.  You have put a dramatically heightened appreciation of good Modernist design on the map and in the minds and hearts of many people who needed something like this to focus their attention.  We, the architects, are particularly appreciative, and I know that your dad would be very proud of what you have done with this."

I was surprised to hear about an organization dedicated to promoting and preserving modernism in our area. After reading the article in the Chapel Hill news, I went straight to the web site and browsed the for-sale listings, where I found another amazing modern house, this one designed by Raymond Sawyer. One quick look, and I was home again! In the past year, I've carefully renovated the house and gardens, and added a new kitchen. The house was featured on the TMH West Raleigh tour in November 2009." -- Adrianne Joergensen

"My Modernist house sold -- and well over half the hits on the web site were referred via TMH." - David Sykes of Apex

We certainly got a lot more hits on the website for the house after listing on TMH. Thank you again for having this service." We are the new owner of David Sykes' Deck house in Apex.  We need to say thank you, your website really helped us buy the house we love." -- ML Huang

You and your website were very important in this transaction. -- Katherine "Muffin" Dixon, Realtor

"Thanks for listing our home so beautifully on TMH.  I've written the architect a letter to let him know how much we've loved living in his home, how well it's designed and built (maintenance-free over the past five years - unusual for a 55-year-old home -- or any home, for that matter, I suppose) and the fond memories we'll keep.

"Thank you! Triangle Modernist Houses provided tremendous inspiration and confidence that we are not alone in modern design.  Its nice to see our house listed. "

"I found a house for a nice couple recently - am happy to say they found me through TMH." -- Charlotte Realtor

Thanks very much for keeping the TMH website running.  We found the house through your site while doing a Google search for "Greensboro postmodern homes". From your site we found the listing on Zillow, got a viewing of the house within 48 hours and made an offer shortly after that." -- Len Testa

"Great news! I found a lovely couple to rent my mid-century modern house. He saw the house in your newsletter yesterday, came by in the afternoon, and they brought their deposit and rental application today. Wow, that was easy!" - Adrianne Joergensen
