CHARLES HOLDEN (1972-) Charles Holden graduated from North Carolina State University's School of Design in Raleigh, North Carolina with a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy, a Bachelors of Environmental Design in Architecture, and a Bachelor of Architecture Degree, Cum Laude. Heis founder of Oxide Architecture and Oxide Structure. Prior to Oxide, he founded Tonic Design with Shelley Gruendler and, later, Tonic Construction with Vincent Petrarca. Realizing a founding goal for Tonic, in 2006 the Chiles Residence was awarded a North Carolina AIA Honor Award for Design. Between 1994 and 2003, Charles worked with Frank Harmon, contributing to over fifty projects and many award-winning buildings, including the the Penland School of Crafts’ Iron Studio in Penland, NC. One project from this period included renovations and additions to a Byron Franklin house in New Bern, NC. |

2008 - Holden is the developer for three prime 1/2 acre lots on Galax Drive in the Laurel Hills area of Raleigh. Holden will live in one and has clients for the other two. The site drawing, above, was done with Tonic Design in 2004 and serves as an example of what might be built. This is one of them.
