ERIN STERLING LEWIS (1978-)

Sterling Lewis is a native of Illinois and grew up in Yazoo City MS. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2002 with a BA in Architecture and worked for Frank Harmon through the fall of 2010 when she and Matt Griffith started their own firm In Situ Studio.

She was featured in the August 2008 Skirt!/Raleigh Magazine as a “Green Goddess.”  What is a Green Goddess?  Someone committed to a environmentally sustainable or "green" lifestyle.  As the Skirt! article pointed out, the principles of sustainability carry through all aspects of her work: “She lives half a mile away from work, keeps a garden, a compost pile, and now a ‘worm factory,’ which turns her household waste into rich soil.” As Sterling Lewis told Skirt, the principles of sustainability inform her approach to architectural practice so strongly that she carries them over into her personal life. “It’s all about reducing your carbon footprint,” she said.  Sterling Lewis served two years on the Raleigh Historic Districts Commission (RHDC) and is currently a member of the RHDC Design Review Advisory Committee. Erin lives with her family in a 1925 bungalow near downtown Raleigh.
