JAMES KNOX TATE IV, AIA (1944-)

Tate was born in Lexington VA.  He received a BS in Civil Engineering from Duke University in 1966.  After four years in the US Navy and Vietnam as Commander, he earned a BA in Architecture from the University of Tennessee School of Design in 1973.  He taught structures and design for three years at the NCSU School of Design.  He was a Chapel Hill Historic District Commissioner for 10 years and Chair for four years.  He is married to Stella Waugh, daughter of Terry Waugh.

 



1974 - The Evelyn Blackburn Residence, 313 Avalon Court, Chapel Hill.  Sold in 1975 to Donna Snider and William J Arendshorst.  Sold in 1991 Abdul G. and Lila S. Azhari.  Sold in 2006 to Robert P. Lineberger.


1976 - The Knox Tate House, 195 Marilyn Lane, Chapel Hill.  Sold in 1983 to Carol Macguire Carnes.  Sold in 1984 to Susan Evans.  Sold in 1985 to David Woodley.  Sold in 1988 to Margaret Scarborough.  Sold to 1994 to Joyce Stahmann.  Sold in 2001 to current owners Aron Helser and Alexandra Bokinsky.  Tate added the screened porch in the last few years.


 

 

 

 

 

2008 - The Nick & Barbara Livingston Residence, 1316 Preston Spring Lane, Chapel Hill.  Built for current owners.
